ELT Spey Series

Simply put, the ELT series of rods are the highest performing spey rods in ACR history and quite possibly the finest two-handed rods yet designed and built. Utilizing the very best materials on ACR designed blanks, these rods are defined by an action that doesn’t fit into the traditional “Slow-Medium-Fast” description of rod flex. The ACR action loads deeply into the handle while casting but recovers from load extremely quickly, generating high line speeds never before associated with full flexing Spey rods. High line speeds mean tighter loops that pierce through the wind and greater distances with less effort from the caster. If you can wade into the spot, our ELT rods can make the cast.

ELT rods come with a standard build aesthetic that is simple, clean and elegant but are available for customization. Give us a call if you’d like us to build you a true one-of-a-kind rod that suits your aesthetic tastes.

Within the ELT series, we have designed rods in different line weights at a consistent length. We have found 12’7”, 13’2” and 14’4” rods suit most fisheries but anglers tend to want different line weights for different presentations, seasons or water conditions. We have worked hard to ensure that rods have a consistent action throughout the lineup of a given length. If you have a length and action that works for you, you can be confident that a different line weight in that length will have the same casting stroke.

Grain weights are based on Scandinavian style floating shooting heads. For Skagit bellies add approximately 50 grains. Every ACR rod comes with an appropriately sized Scandi-style floating shooting head. Your rod will be in a cloth bag inside a cordura covered hard tube with the ACR logo, ready to travel safely to your fishing destination.

Featured Configurations

1276 – 12ft 7in 6 weight: We fish a lot of 6-weight spey rods in southern Oregon. This is the most versatile line weight for our steelhead that tend to run a little smaller than their northern cousins. Gary says, “this is hands-down the best 6-weight Spey rod I’ve ever built.” Whether you’re skating a muddler in August, fishing a Lady Caroline on a fast sinking polyleader in November or soaking a leech with 10’ of T-14 in February, this rod delivers.

1275 – 12ft 5in 5 weight: Charles has been casting 5-weight spey rods since Gary Anderson invented the first true 5-weight Spey years ago. He has since fished every 5-weight ACR has produced and this is his all-time favorite. Do you really need to cast 100 feet with a 5-weight? No, but sometimes it’s fun knowing you can if you want to. Paired with a floating Scandi head, this may be the ultimate summer steelhead rod.

1328 – 13ft 2in 8-weight: This rod has a devoted following with Pacific Northwest winter steelhead guides. If the thought of casting all manner of sink-tips and big, heavy flies makes your palms sweat with anticipation, then this rod will be a dream come true.

1449 – 14ft 4in 9 weight: Charles once had the chance to fish a little-known coastal river in British Columbia that was rumored to produce some of the hardest-grabbing chinook salmon known to humans. Rod selection was complicated by the need for the occasional long cast with long, heavy sink-tips. The 1449 ELT was not only the right tool for the job, its’ lightness in hand made all day fishing a joy.
