Nova 2 Series
Our Nova 2 series of rods represent what we feel is the highest value in modern spey rods. Designed on the water here in southern Oregon and built with the same quality materials as our higher end models, the Nova 2 rods are a great introduction to the Anderson Custom Rods family. Nova 2 rods are defined by lightness in hand, smooth ACR action and the elegant aesthetics associated with all of our products. Nova 2 rods have a standard build not available for customization.
Anglers looking for their first Trout Spey will find our 3 and 4-weight rods to be surprisingly easy to cast, true to weight and extremely effective angling tools. ACR built the first spey rods in the trout line weights and has gained a devoted following in the Trout Spey world. Try one of our Nova 2 rods and you will see that they perform better than rods that cost twice as much.
Grain weights are based on Scandinavian style floating shooting heads. For Skagit bellies add approximately 50 grains. Every ACR rod comes with an appropriately sized Scandi-style floating shooting head. Your rod will be in a cloth bag inside a cordura covered hard tube with the ACR logo, ready to travel safely to your fishing destination.
Featured Configurations
1307 - 13ft 7 weight : This is the rod we affectionately refer to as “Al’s Rod”. Named for the great Al Perryman, Gary’s best fishing buddy and ACR’s primary “On Water Rod Tester” for over 30 years. This is the go to spey rod for swinging flies all year in the Pacific Northwest. Line it up with a Skagit style head in the winter and comfortably throw big flies and sink tips, then switch it in the summer with your favorite Scandi head. This rod can simply do it all.
1266 – 12ft 6in 6 weight: Charles initially fell in love with the 12’6” 6-weight spey rod in the original Nova series and it quickly became his “SUV rod” for year-round steelhead fishing. After using the Nova 2 version of this rod for everything from summer steelhead on the Deschutes to spring-run brutes in BC, we can tell you that this rod is TOUGH! Of course, we don’t necessarily recommend using a 6-weight for winter or spring steelhead. We just have to test the limits of what our rods will do.
1368 – 13ft 6in 8 weight: Charles once asked a talented guide on Argentina’s Rio Grande what the very best spey rod is for sea-run brown trout and this rod configuration was his answer. If you’re making a big destination trip to the Rio Grande, British Columbia or that dream Atlantic Salmon trip, you don’t want to be caught without a back-up rod. This has quickly become our customers’ first choice for a back-up rod for big fish. Be careful, once you cast this rod it may just become your first rod on the water every morning.
